According to Commissioner Roger Goodell, the NFL does not need four preseason games as it has been until now. "It's clear the fans don't want four preseason football games," he commented. "It's clear the players don't want four preseason games. They tell me that all the time."

Apparently, the National Football League and union officials have discussed the topic and think that the best would be to have two preseason games and 18 regular season games. “It's the types of things that we need to do to make the game better,” Goodell said. “We're continuing to evolve the game that way.” According to sources, a decision could be reached soon.

According to the Commissioner, there has been an ongoing discussion about this between his office and other interested parties. “We have to adjust what we're doing,” Goodell added. “We're trying to figure out ways to grow things.” Goodell also noted that roster sizes and injure reserve rules will be reviewed. NFL players have repeatedly showed their concern for the high increase in injuries.

The National Football League Commissioner commented that even players do not like the four football preseason exhibition games and that most football fans do not know that most starters play moderately during those preseason football games. Concerning Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young’s citation for assault ouside a club Goodell said: “We don't have a timeline other than making a good decision.”
