The NFL owners will be having a two-day meeting this week to discuss different issues, including a collective agreement, the new overtime rule for the regular season and Super Bowl XLVIII, which may be hosted by Tampa Bay, South Florida or New York. Apparently, some teams are in favor of having the two-possession rule ready for the regular season.
As to the Super Bowl, some NFL teams have already expressed their opinions. “From our point of view, there's still no better place to have a Super Bowl,” Mike Dee, SEO of the Miami Dolphins said last Sunday. “The fact that we've had 10 of the first 44 Super Bowls here, we certainly think the owners recognize that. But this is a new era.”
South Florida holds the record as the place that has hosted more Super Bowls. The location was enthusiastically reviewed by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in February when it hosted the Super Bowl plus the Pro Bowl. It was the first time in history the NFL held the all-star game at the Super Bowl location. However, South Florida and the other candidate, Tampa, face a tough challenge against the New York location.
According to Patriot’s Robert Kraft, he will vote for a Super Bowl in New York and the possibility of the metropolitan location hosting the NFL event seems closer and closer every day. This would be the first time the city hosts the Super Bowl and the stadium that could be selected is the new Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey, a $1.6 billion venue.
