Action
Any kind of bet
Book

Is an establishment where are accepted bets on the outcome of sporting
events.
Bookie
Is the man who takes the clients bets.
Bankroll
A roll of currency notes

Beard
A contact who is used to place bets so that the bookmakers will not know
the identity of the actual bettor.
Buck
A $100 bet.

Chalk

The favorite´s team.

Chalk Player
Person who only plays to the winner teams.
Cover
Win by more than the point spread.

Dime
$1000
Dog
The underdog in any betting proposition.
Dollar Bet

A $100 bet.
Double Bet
A bet for twice the size of one's usual bet.
Edge
Advantage.

Fixed
Point shaving. Never say to a client that a game is fixed!
Getting Down
Making a bet.
Going Down

When you are losing.
Handicapper
Is the person who studies and rates the sporting events.
Hedge
To place a bet opposite of an original bet in order to reduce the action
a bettor has on a sports event and minimize potential losses.

Hooked
Losing a bet by exactly one-half a point.
Hot Game
Is the game which is drawing a lot of action on one side by knowledgeable
handicappers. It´s a hot game!
Limit

Maximum amount a bookmaker will allow you to bet before he changes odds
and/or the points.
Line
Are the listed odds on a game.
Longshot

Team that has little chance to win.
"The Man"
Bookie.
Nickel
A $500 bet.

Odds On Favorite
Team so favored by the public that odds are less than even.
Overplay
Advantage for the bettor in which the price on a given wager is greater
than the real probability of its success.
Parlay

Single bet that links together two or more individual bets. For the parlay
bet to win, each of the individual bets must win.
Parlay Cards
Wagers on a minimum of 3 and up to 15 propositions; the more you pick,
the higher the payoff.
Post Time
The Schedule starting time.

Run Line
A line used when betting on baseball.
Sport Player
A man who waits for what he thinks is an unusually strong bet.
Score

To make a big win.
Star
Rating.
The Store
Bookie.

Tout
A man who sells his opinions on sports wagers.
Underdog
The team or player expected to lose.
Vigorish

The bookmaker's commission.

Wager
Any Bet.
Wise Guy
A sophisticated gambler.
