Finally, the National Football League has chosen the location for the 2014 Super Bowl and it’s a cold weather location. The New York Giants have been chosen by NFL owners to host the most important football event in 2014 in their brand new stadium. This will be the first time the city hosts the event and also the first time it takes place in a cold weather location.
The results and the success, or not, of the 2014 Super Bowl at the Meadowlands Stadium, will affect future decisions to select a cold weather city to host the event. According to NFL commissioner Rodger Goodell, he will be paying attention to the pros and cons of organizing the Super Bowl while having chances of snow.
New England Patriot’s Robert Kraft supported the decision to move the Super Bowl to a cold weather location stating that weather element should be part of the event as it happens in their stadium. “New York is a very unique opportunity for us,” Commissioner Goodell commented. “It’s the largest media market and home to two NFL teams. Let’s see how the success is in New York and we’ll go from there.”
Goodell will also pay attention to other novelties in the NFL world, such as shared team practices and the overtime rule to be used only in the playoffs. “We plan to do the new overtime rules incrementally,” he said. “We’ll see how our experience goes in this year’s playoffs.”
