French tennis player Mary Pierce suffered a terrible knee injury during a match in Linz, Austria. Despite the six months to a year of rehabilitation she is facing, Pierce is already talking about returning and representing France at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. The truth is she will not only have to overcome it physically but also psychologically.

Pierce had to be carried off the court during a match when she felt a terrible pain on her knee. The initial diagnosis was a ruptured ligament but she will be further examined to make sure there is only one ligament involved. Pierce will have to undergo surgery but has to wait for the swelling in her knee to go down.

“I had never been in so much pain in my life”, Pierce said. “It's too bad, I was just beginning to play well again. But there are worse things in life.” Concerning the future, Mary did not doubt. “I feel it's not the moment to stop, and as long as I feel that way, I'll give everything.”
