Swiss player Roger Federer defeated American player James Blake to win the Masters Cup in Shanghai. This is Federer’s 29th consecutive won match and his 12th title of the season. “Obviously, we're all chasing Roger,” Blake said. “It's no secret. He's playing head and shoulders above the rest of us.”

Federer won his third Masters Cup title 6-0, 6-3, 6-4. He has been ranked Nº1 since February 2nd, 2004. “To finish it off by winning the Masters Cup, the world championship so to speak, it's the perfect ending to an incredible season,” Federer said. “There's not much more I could have done.”

The world’s Nº1 tennis player made it to the finals of all four majors this season but failed to obtain a Grand Slam because he lost to Nadal at the French Open. However, he is about to break Jimmy Connors’ record for more weeks at the top of the ranking.

“That is definitely one of the big records so far in my career,” Federer said about Connors’ mark. “I'm waiting for that date to come along, and then I'll celebrate it, not right now.”
