With Kurt Warner retiring from the NFL this year, Matt Leinart has been left with the job and the responsibility to show that he has what it takes to lead Arizona to victory. He also needs to show Cardinals fans he has learned from mistakes and has improved his game, leaving behind the mistake-prone play he showed during his first four years in the National Football League.
In the 2006 draft, when the Arizona Cardinals drafted Leinart it seemed like the perfect match. On one hand, Leinart showed an impressive pro-style offense at USC and seemed to be experienced beyond his years and on the other hand, the Arizona team finally got a franchise quarterback.
Leinart was expected to take over the full-time job in short. However, after four years and after starting eleven games, Leinart has been struggling with the offense and his maturity has also been an issue. In spite of critics, the NFL quarterback seems to have settled after the birth of his son and he is now feeling more confident and focused to become the player the Cardinals expected him to be when they drafted him.
As he recently commented, he is now spending more time studying films and also working with his teammates and coaches. Matt Leinart has said several times during the offseason that he is really confident he can replace Kurt Warner, now he’ll have the chance to prove it on the football field.
