Four years ago, Roger Goodell was named NFL commissioner and he promised to focus on the quality of football games, the strength of teams and innovation. Although there have been some trouble on the way and a labor battle with the player’s union is pending, there is no doubt the commissioner has left his mark on the National Football League.
Goodell has reviewed almost all operational areas in the league and has strongly protected the NFL brand. Recently, he decided to support the decision of having a Super Bowl in a cold-weather city and an outdoor stadium and he changed overtime rules for the NFL playoffs. He also wants HGH testing to be included in future labor negotiations.
“I feel very strongly that we cannot be complacent in what we do,” Goodell commented after the meeting with NFL owners in Dallas. “We have to continue to find ways to grow the game, to reach new fans and to continue to provide quality.” His latest proposal is to enhance the regular NFL season by adding to two games for a total of 18 football games.
Besides, Goodell has approved mass suspensions for NFL players and league officials who have violated the NFL’s personal conduct policy. Recently, he gave a speech during the NFL rookie symposium, telling new players about the importance of having a proper conduct as NFL players. His actions as NFL commissioner have leaded even those who oppose him to respect his decisions.
